COURSE TITLE: Advances in Oral Surgery
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Orthodontists and maxillofacial surgeons have common interests. Among them are the treatment of jaw deformities and TMJ diseases. In the last several years, we have gained insights into fascinating diseases like unilateral condylar hyperplasia and juvenile idiopathic arthritis. However, many practitioners are not yet aware of the new advances. Similarly, significant advances have occurred in morphometrics and surgical simulation that directly impact patient care. Therefore, this course aims to bring to your attention the new paradigms.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this course the participant would be able:
Classify all types of jaw deformities
Evaluate jaw deformities using modern geometric cephalometry
Recognize Juvenile Idiopathic arthritis in patients with TMJ erosions
Plan orthognathic surgery efficiently
Reconsider our conception of unilateral condylar hyperplasia of the mandible
Formulate a distraction osteogenesis plan that will result in better outcomes
